Ya I was wondering the same. I think it may have to do more with the people promoting it. The affiliate program through genesis gives massive amounts of hashpower to you if you have gotten a lot of referrals. CryptoNick said he maybe put 3K into the site. He has almost 100 TH/s of bitcoin mining power. 3K would buy you maybe 30-35 TH/s.
So it creates this illusion that not to much money can make you a killing.
There's nothing wrong with affiliate marketting if it's a legit product. It's distribution of cash. No different to sharing Steem.
