Polish Central Bank Paid Youtuber to Attack Cryptocurrencies

Poland’s central bank — Narodowy Bank Polski (NFB)— has admitted to paying for social media campaigns that attacked the legitimacy of cryptocurrencies. The bank spent 91,000 zloty ($27,100) on the campaigns, with the money going to Google, Facebook, and a Polish Youtube partner network called Gamellon, Money.pl reports. The news comes after the site published a letter from NFB in which it admits it paid for the anti-crypto campaign.

While it’s not unusual for governments or agencies to issue warnings or try to educate the public on what regulators may consider risky investments, Polish financial authorities have taken it a step further, spending taxpayers’ money on a smear campaign— trying to sway public opinion against crypto assets by paying social media influencers to attack them. The bank worked in cooperation with the country’s Financial Supervision Authority, Komisja Nadzoru Finansowego (KNF).

The money went to a Polish Youtube network that represents many popular, young content creators. A video with the title “I LOST ALL MONEY?!” — which depicted investments in cryptocurrencies in a negative light — appeared on December 8th on Marcin Dubiel’s channel, a Polish Youtube prankster who has over 900,000 subscribers.

Dubiel’s video, which has over 500,000 views, contains the hashtag #uważajnakryptowaluty. The tag is associated with the “Watch out for cryptocurrencies” website, which was set up by the central bank. The Planeta Faktów (Planet of Facts) Youtube channel was also paid to produce a video titled “10 differences between money and cryptocurrency that you need to know.”

Who would have thought, shady bankers the greedy wankers...

For some reason, this doesn't surprise me. Crytpo is a a threat to the financial foundation of many institutions. Crypto is here to change the world and (hopefully) take power away from the feds!

I feel bad for Poland, a country we used to look up to in the east is now turning back into a communist relic. I love Poles and hope the gain their democracy back soon.

What institutions want to promote a direct challenger they don't control?
IMO some crypto's will, through regulation, come under control of existing financial powers. When that happens, watch how quickly attacking turns to support.
Thank you for bringing outside news reports here.

If it empowers the current financial powers again, will it be beneficial to the common man anymore ?

Two steps forward, one step back. The monopolization of control isn't a straight line chart. I've said this before in comments. The only thing as strong as the will to be free, is the will to control. Both sides attempt to use emerging technology to advance their agendas. It remains to be seen who wins out.

This is good news. After they ignore cryptocurrencies and that doesn't work, they're forced to acknowledge it by attacking it. Pretty soon the foothold that cryptos have on the store of value humanity wants to put in currencies will be too great for even them to think it can be stopped.

Wooow, no doubt theyre scared. They should be petrified. Thats what happens when you go after a transparent ledger system with a centralized fiat mindset. It just makes your banks look petty and stupid. Which they are. Why pay to fight it? What do they have to hide not adopting it?

Doing all they can to stop the cryptos. But nothing can really stop a revolution. Its a much needed one too. Decentralization is future.
Will we see Facebook doing something similar with Steemit ?

upvote and resteemit done. .

keep it on

The maybe the first to admit it.... But do you really think other banks and governments haven't already done the same, if not at the least contemplated it.

Cryptocurrency potentially has the ability to tople govenments around the world.

If you really want to put on a tin foil hat... This could be their way of making us feel like we are gaining power, yet really bring in a one world government by our own doing????

Who knows anything is possible these days.
What this bank has done is certainly wrong and I'm not trying to downplay that. But I'm sure their not the only ones...
