TORONTO — A professed failure to understand Bitcoin has not deterred KFC Canada from accepting the cryptocurrency as payment for a bucket of fried chicken.

A limited-time marketing promotion for a “Bitcoin Bucket” was launched Thursday afternoon by the quick-serve restaurant chain — so limited, in fact, that it appeared to sell out of the ten-piece chicken buckets entirely between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. ET on Friday.

“Sure, we don’t know exactly what Bitcoins are, or how they work, but that shouldn’t come between you and some finger lickin’ good chicken,” the company said in a posting on its Canadian Facebook page that featured a live tracker of the virtual currency’s value superimposed on a bucket of chicken.

Would you like to pay a transaction fee worth more than the bucket and wait until it's cold for the confirmations? I applaud KFC for their effort and willingness to embrace crypto but I think this campaign really highlights the issues with scaling Bitcoin right now.

Apparently yes, people would considering they sold out! ;)

totally agree. paying more transaction fees than the price of the bucket of chicken seems a little absurd, but i too like the 'move' by kfc...
there is almost no day recently where there is no crypto news. maybe this is still just the silence before the storm, because this is more of a 'promotion' as it is an economic gain for kfc.
still, nice development, maybe other companies follow...

More than the transaction fees, I think the the thing to focus on is the symbolic importance of this. A huge worldwide retail brand like KFC at least took notice of cryptos and did a promotional using Bitcoin. This I think is a significant development. They will eventually figure out the right coin to use if they decide to actually acccept crypto currencies.

agreed. btc was never suited for everyday-uses like this (or something like microtransactions), but for example eth could be used as an everyday-payment-service. the symbolic character of this cannot be denied, though.

“Sure, we don’t know exactly what Bitcoins are, or how they work, but that shouldn’t come between you and some finger lickin’ good chicken,” ...Hahahah that's hilarious @contentjunkie... great news for the crypto community though :)

Perhaps there is another reason they are trying to promote payment option with bitcoin. Sometimes thing don’t make sense in the beginning. Let’s see how this works out. As for now the transaction fee and time just doesn’t make any sense.
Resteemed!

That is HILARIOUS @contentjunkie! In Toronto right now and I have to check this out.

You mean the fare was more expensive than the tank of gas😃😃

This is a step in the right direction but bitcoin's transaction fees and overcrowded network are not suited for this. Hopefully, companies do not give up on cryptocurrency as it was a success and companies will notice this soon.

,,, they'd have to pay ME bitcoin to eat kfc crap

-How many ?
-0,000000000.........526578 btc :)

Agree with you here. I appreciate the marketing angle but at least take the time to truly understand the system, not just jump on the hype. Imagine the return if one staffer was truly invested in crypto and could've used language that pulled this demographic into their restaurants? Imagine the top post here on Steemit about how awesome KFC is! Definitely a missed opportunity here to do something special, instead opting for the lazy or condescending route.
