Swiss national Rail to sell Bitcoin via ticket machines

in #bitcoin8 years ago (edited)

From Friday 11th November, the Swiss national rail company SBB will sell Bitcoin via the ticket machines in its stations. Swiss citizens will not be able to buy tickets with Bitcoins, but they will be able to exchange Swiss Francs for the currency.

Switzerland has long had a reputation as a nation of banks, and secure and private banks at that. So it is maybe no surprise that cryptocurrency  has become popular with the inhabitants of the Alpine country. The Swiss town of Zug began a trial to let citizens pay for public 'services' with Bitcoin back in July.

To buy Bitcoins via the station based ticket machine, residents will have to give a mobile phone number for identification, and transactions will be capped at 500 Swiss Francs. The service is provided by SweePay .
