Who is backing Bitcoin Gold?

in #bitcoin7 years ago (edited)

Bitcoin Gold is less than one week away now. Everyone is asking the same question however - how do I receive this "free money"? Following on from my previous two posts for anyone wanting to better understand the fork:

  1. When will Bitcoin give it a rest? Bitcoin Gold? What's next Bitcoin Silver? (https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@banglasteve/when-will-bitcoin-give-it-a-rest-bitcoin-gold-what-s-next-bitcoin-silver)

  2. When is bitcoin forking off? (https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@banglasteve/when-is-bitcoin-forking-off)

I have made this post to explore which wallets/exchanges will be supporting the fork. Generally hardware wallets are best for your valuable coins as they are impossible to hack. Software wallets are the next best thing as you control the private keys (think of this as the password to your bank account). You should generally avoid leaving coins on an exchange unless you are trading.

These are the list of exchanges/wallets supporting the fork:

These are the list of exchanges that are undecided or are yet to provide an update:

  • Coinspot (they have issued a mixed statement and will potentially support the fork)
  • Binance (rumours that it will support the hardfork)
  • Bitfinex (no response)

These are the list of exchanges not supporting the fork and have outright stated this:

I hope everyone investing realises that this is not as significant a fork as Bitcoin Cash on August 1st as the community supporting BTG is much smaller. There is much greater support for all the aforementioned exchanges for Segwit 2X which is another fork in November. I will update this list progressively as news is released.

Happy investing/trading and thanks for taking the time to read my article.
