So I will tell you what is cryptojacking and how you can be safe from it.
Friends as you all know the internet we use is free because we can surf any website and can do any work but friends in the end there is some revenue model because nothing in today’s world is free. Now new model is came which is known as crytpojacking in which hackers use your computer or mobile power for mining crypto currency for this hackers don’t need to attack your computer or they don’t need to send you any type of malware. All the work is done through basic java script which run in the background whenever you are on malicious website even you don’t get inform and you are just doing your normal work but in behind the scenes your computer power is getting used by hacker for his/her benefit for mining crypto currency.
Friends you all have listen the name of very popular website torrents, the pirate bay this website also do the same thing where its users whenever came on this website there CPU usage get big spike where user CPU is used in some other work and later pirate bay also agreed that they were doing testing because they don’t want to run advertisements on their websites so the users get the clean layout so for this in the background they use CPU power for mining crypto currency for this they get money and they can sustain themselves.
In this thing there is very strong arguments some users say it is good thing we don’t want to see advertisement you can use our computer power on other side some users say at least website should tell us if you doing cryptojacking without informing us it’s not good thing.
So what if they use our computer power-
First thing is when they do cryptojacking then normal CPU ventilator work fully loaded for long time and your electricity bill also increases and if your device is battery powered then your battery will discharged very fast and then you have to recharge your device again.
So you only have two options-
- Give your privacy in the form of advertisements.
- Give your computer power.
Hackers are planning something like this and these types of work is already happing on big malicious websites and there are many reputed websites also but if the hacker attack on it them all the traffic of website is used by hacker for his/her benefit.
Just thing how many users in the world surf one common website at a time and how much power they can use for mining crypto currency.
But mining Bitcoin through normal CPU power is almost impossible but there are many crypto currencies which can be mined with normal CPU power for example Monero coins.
So now what you have to do-
Whenever you go to any specific websites for example- pirate bay or any other and you feel your CPU fan is running so fast or your device is becoming warm just got to the google chrome setting and turn off the java scripts and there are many extensions like no coins, script lock and if you want to visit these type of websites.
Recently one company Coinhive debut with a type of script which only runs in background and mine coin easily so in future this problem going to be very serious if large websites like facebook etc use this type of script and no one will be aware of it .
So it’s better to manually block the java script and you can also use Tor browser
