Hello Steemit!

in #bitcoin7 years ago

Hey friends! I''ve decided to join Steemit as i have researched it in the past couple of days.
Here's my verdict about Steemit. Let me know what you think
and or if you disagree or agree with me.

PROS:

Positive reinforcement
I believe this will encourage people to post more positive comments and or posts knowing they will earn more money doing so.

Community
I know this is not Steemit exclusive. But we love to have a sense of belonging with a particular group of people. Everyone can belong with everyone.

Mobile confirmation
As much as we love anonymity. The fact that we have a relatively strict regulation to create an account as of now eliminates any negative posts, comments or trolls within the community.

CONS:

Hate Community
Contradictory to one of the pros, There is still a grey area. People will still post unnecessary negative or hate threads using 'free speech' as a form of
a justification. And people who share the same views will support these unjustifiable action.

Quantity over Quality
Knowing the potential of gaining money, I am afraid there will be a lot of steemer who would just post a lot of low quality threads
thus flooding the forum with mediocre contents. Even as far as posting false or hyperbolic news just to gain upvotes.

Copy pasted contents
This is obvious. People can easily snatch a 'hot' content from another website and paste it here and earn things they shouldn't have

Conclusion:
With more regulations and working system I think steem is a fantastic platform. I do hope there are enough funds to fund the community
and the website running with their necessary security.

Welcome to steemit. :c)

To your points:

  • In many ways steemit does promote positive enforcement - but it is not always so. It can be difficult to be noticed - regardless of the quality of one's content.

  • The community is quite supportive overall and helpful too. There are exceptions of course and bullying can and does happen upon all levels (typically at the hands of "high reputation" users because of how reputation works).

  • As such I wouldn't call this platform troll, negative post or sybil proof.

  • On the other hand I would downplay the presence of any hate communities. Frankly such posts are few and far between. Of course the boundaries of what one considers "hate speech" and "freedom of expression" can work to shift the posts. Can it be a problem? Yes. Is it a problem? Not-so-much. Plus it could be argued that it is far preferable for such sentiments to exist at the surface where they can be addressed than to be allowed to fester out of sight.

  • Quantity over Quality 'is' Steemit. There exists little motivation to deliver more than a couple of paragraphs of "content" and a second-hand image per post. They may get less upvotes per post - but the effort-to-payout ratio is King here...

  • Yes people can copy-paste content here - but they would be caught out thanks to plagiarism-detecting bots. That being said - its far from a complete solution - and some definitely do plagiarize anyway.

Steemit needs a rethink. Its a functioning model - but then again so was the Ford Model-T. ^_~ There is always room for improvement and the dev pool and executive core need to keep their eyes open.

I totally agree with you
