LaBitConf Bogotá: Colombian Coffee Tasting and the Real Satoshi

in #bitcoin7 years ago (edited)

Last year's Latin American Bitcoin Conference, which took place in Buenos Aires, started with a wine tasting, as Argentina is famous for its world class wines. LaBitConf  is a travelling conference, which this year was organised in Bogotá, Colombia. So consequently it began with a coffee tasting, as coffee is probably Colombia's most popular export product.

We learned a lot about the different stages of coffee production and the various types and flavours of coffee. The best part was of the course the practical one.

We tasted three very different kinds of coffee, each one came with a little byte to eat: dark chocolate with a rather sweet coffee, dried fruit with a coffee that had a fruity taste, and lemon grass with a slightly acid coffee.

I was astonished how different and well tasting coffee can be. I never drink black coffee, as its taste is normally too bitter for me, but maybe I should just switch to high quality coffee from Colombia.

After a short break, the conference was inaugurated with a reception in the bar of the Sheraton hotel. It was great to see many people again that I met at the previous editions of LaBitConf in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City.

A short documentary clip about LaBitConf 2016

Very few like Connie Gallippi from BitGive, Justin Blincoe from Shapeshift and Juan Llanos, compliance consultant from New York, have been to all five editions (like me).

A first time guest was Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto, the man who was identified by Newsweek in 2014 as the inventor of Bitcoin because of the striking evidence that he bears the same name.

Rodolfo Andragnes, the main organiser of LaBitConf, had the brilliant idea to invite him to Bogotá to tell the real story. And he asked me to interview him. More about that in one of my next posts.

May the real Satoshi please stand up?

It was a nice start into a conference that got better every day. And thanks, José, for the excellent hand-imported Mezcal from Mexico!

Ahh, I was wondering! I couldn't imagine the real Satoshi just rocking up at a crypto conference without it being all over the papers. Enjoy!

Hey, I made a cameo!

That's not you, that is Satoshi!
