Big Bitcoin Players Have Agreed on SegWit 2MB

Good news from Consensus New York City: I have spoken to several people who were present at the pre-conference meeting of many important Bitcoin players which was initiated by Barry Silbert from Digital Currency Group. They all confirm that a consensus has been reached to accept the compromise of Sergio Lerner from Rootstock to combine Segregated Witness and a blocksize increase to 2 Megabytes.

This would mean that the amount of transactions the Bitcoin network can handle will quadruple. That's still not enough to match future needs, but it buys time to develop solutions like the Lightning Network.

It was a historic day for Bitcoin! The seven years anniversary of the legendary Pizza purchase, taking the 2000 dollar mark and solving the blocksize debate, all in a couple of hours.
