Forty mumble years ago Mr. and Mrs. Lingonis received a wee bundle of joy, in the form of a new baby daughter. Little did they know at the time how that event would shape their lives.

Had their daughter been born in this century, I have no doubt she would have been prescribed Ritalin in large doses, and her parents prescribed Valium in equally large doses.
Their little firebrand grew into a woman that doesn’t suffer fools and takes no prisoners. She has led a life that would astonish the casual onlooker and kept her sanity, sense of humor and trademark defiance of authority.
So yesterday her friends, of which there are quite a few, gathered at our house to wish her a happy birthday. We raised a glass of bubbles (or in my case a bottle) and toasted her good fortune, and ours for knowing her, and hoped that she would continue to be a force in our lives.
There was food. There was wine. There was music. There was my beautiful wife smiling and happy as we welcomed friends to our home and enjoyed an afternoon of hosting some very lovely people.
Now all that is left to do is, eat the leftovers, drink the leftovers, and enjoy the memories of a special day.
And may we have many more of them in the future.
