The European pied flycatcher (Ficedula hypoleuca)

Have a look! This male flycatcher sits in a tree and sings. Thus, it denotes its territory.

In other species of birds, the songs mean only the designation of the territory, and in these birds it is perceived differently. It also means that this area is habitable, and they can settle, but only in the neighborhood.

The European greenfinch, or just greenfinch (Chloris chloris)

And now look more attentively to sprouts on branches. On the first photo, as you can see, large uncool sprouts. And in this photo there are practically no sprouts, only buds. This is easily explained. The flycatcher is an insectivorous bird, and this greenfinch is herbivorous. If you look closely, you can see on the beak of this bird the remains of eaten sprouts.
And again we return to the topic of territoriality. In the first photo, the territory of the flycatchers, and they does not allow anyone to go there, therefore there are safe and whole shoots there. And on the second territory of the greenfinch, where the sprouts are already eaten by her.
