Ratel's photos #267 Forest Birds-209
The lesser spotted woodpecker (Dryobates minor)
This cute little woodpecker looks like a white-backed woodpecker in miniature. He also has a completely red cap (in males) on his head, and a white color predominates on his back and wings.
He dwells in deciduous and mixed forests, preferring floodplain and swampy forests. Keeps on trees, climbing on branches and rarely on trunks. Basically, he cuts through thin branches and a rotten bark.
This male examined the old birch for the presence of larvae and insects.
They can often be seen in a mixed bird flock. But this time he was completely alone. Spring, birds are divided into pairs.
