Feathered Friday ~ Red-crested Cardinal
My trip has started!
Just finishing the third day here in Honolulu, Hawaii, at the beginning of my 8 month walkabout. One of the things I can't help but notice are the birds -- they're everywhere. The most common I have seen, so far, are little house finches, pigeons, some tiny dove-like bird, and these red-crested cardinals.
A species introduced in 1930, red-crested cardinals are originally from South America where they are known as Brazilian Cardinals, and although they look like Northern Cardinals, they aren't closely related. These little guys were hopping around in the park eating vegetation.
