Bioprinting – 3D printing body parts!

in #bioprinting7 years ago (edited)

Bioprinting- Just excited when I hear it. My friend sudarshan is coming everyday with a spark of excitement and telling me about 3D printing body organs.

And here I am, I don’t have much knowledge about it.

Finally, I accepted my ignorance and asked him to describe about it. (Ahh, it is difficult to accept your ignorance). He then, begins with history. This writing is based on the discussion I had with him and Professor Gordon D Wallace from University of Wollongong.

So let’s get started!
Let’s go on Journey of discovery which was quite recently considered science fiction. Printing 3D body parts was almost
Breakthrough of 3D printing and Recent advances with biotechnology and biomaterial and tissue engineering, it has led to an exciting future full of infinite possibilities.
It is now possible to print 3D organs in a lab.

Version of 3D printing has been there for 30 years. It was limited only upto plastics and metals. These recent advances in medical friend will revolutions
Biomaterials like metals , polymers and gels and bioprinting techniques like selective laser melting, extrusion and inkjet printing.

What is 3D bio printing?

3d bioprinting involves the assembly of structures for medical applications. We can create 3D structures that are either wearable or implantable.
We can create structures of single materials or multiple materials.
There has been so much progress in recent years due to collision of material science, mechatronic engineering, cellular biology, tissue engineering, and also the ability to integrate all of those skills together.
3D printing has been there for around 30 years and was started with simple components to develop material and prototypes.
3D printing was updated eventually with good resolutions.
3D printing is so flexible. You develop the component and structure in your software and you print it.
It works on Layer by layer production.

The whole idea of 3d printing relies on advances of material, advance off our understanding on how those machines interact with living cells how we create inks that are appropriate to the delivery machine that’s bought about through mechatronix engineering.
