Whale Catching
Whaling What is it
There is a lot of talk here on SteemIt about catching a whale and people giving their ideas of how to do it! Of the articles I have read non of them took my approach. I decided it was time to really take a look into Whaling and see if it could be done. I started with a Google search on "How to catch a Whale" today and here is what I have learned.
Reasons for Whaling
Some reasons people over the years have participated in whaling is for meat, oil, blubber, not to mention scientific research. In colder countries such as Greenland whaling became a custom. This helped the locals be able to eat regularly, as well as stay warm. Whale blubber contains vitamins A, C, and D, the meat contains other needed nutrients such as niacin, iron and protein. At one point the entire whale was use for things from lighting lamps, to making tools.
History of whaling
Whaling dates back as far as 3000 BC. Over the years as the profits from hunting whales increased people continued to hunt whales. As late as 1930 before the restrictions to stop whaling came about there were more then 50,000 whales being killed annually. Because of this many whales are on the endangered list. Between 1931 and 1986 some steps where taken, but it was not until 1986 that whaling finally became fully banned in most countries, there are still a few countries, notably Japan, Norway, and Iceland, allow whaling.
Basic Facts about Whales
There are two different kinds of whales! Type one has a baleen while type two has teeth. Whales are mammals which means they breath air, are warm-blooded, the young drink milk, and they even have some hair. Baleen whales have two blowholes, while toothed whales have one which they use to breath through so they can remain submerged.
Whales belong to the order cetacea, which includes whales, dolphins and porpoises. Their bodies are shaped like a torpedo, with non-flexible necks, and their limbs are flippers which they can use to move through the water. Baleen whales use the baleen plates that are located on their tongue to expel the water while holding onto the krill or plankton that they eat. Baleen whales have a developed sense of smell whereas toothed whales, obviously have teeth, and some eat squid. Toothed whales have a developed sense of sound to the point they can even survive even if they are blind.
Whales and Humans
Outside of the obvious of whaling, many people participate in whale watching. They go out to known spots to watch the whales. Many are worried that if whaling ever does start back up these whales that come up along side the boats for the whale watchers will be some of the first whales that would be taken.

well I see your point and made me learn about walles!
but this bloody old wale meet slaying is a shame for humanity like how can we explain that to being from other worlds!
specially if we can be vegetarian! lol inst funny for real!
"I'm not from this world"
John 8:23
It is truly sad, at least they have greatly reduced the numbers of whales killed each year. As for going vegetarian that would be a great way to go.
....this got very literal lol
That was the point. lol...
muy buen post querido amigo @smysullivan, interesante la historia que acabas de contar, muchas gracias por difundirla.
Gracias, y piensoque este es muy interesante.
I saw the title and saw where this was headed and then boom there was the chart lol. Nice job man. The trend is really really low on here these days. Except for the very few people we see.
Well, I had to include the chart, just with the nice title.
I had a pat Orca once. Called him Harvey.
Wife screwed up and laid out Killer Whale Stew one night and everything went to hell in a handbasket. Ain't no accountin' for Southern Women.
