If Tongue And Skin Were Teloreceptor Sense Organs

in #biology7 years ago (edited)

I don't know why but I am loving the biology classes more than ever. Today the chapter that was running was the sense organs when the teacher accidently gave me a new topic for my new steemit blog post. The question that arose in my mind when he talked about teloreceptors was "what would happen if our tongue and skin were teloreceptors too?"

Before going into the teloreceptors let me tell somthing about sense organs.

According to dictionary

an organ of the body which responds to external stimuli by conveying impulses to the sensory nervous system

So basically sense organs are the special organs of our body that perceive the stimuli and send them to brain to interpret the stimuli and respond to them. Humans have five sense organs or sensory receptors. Eye (photoreceptor), ear(auditory), nose(olfactoreceptor), tongue(gustatoreceptor) and skin (thigmoreceptor).

Teloreceptors

The sense organs which can respond to a stimuli at a distance are the teloreceptors. Eyes can see the object at a distance, ears can percieve the sound stimuli from distance and similarly nose can receive distant smell stimuli. So these sense organs of the human body are called teloreceptors.

This was when it stike my mind, " What if our skin can feel a distant stimuli or our tongue could taste from far away from the distance?" I couldn't resist from asking this question with my teacher. (I know that was lame) He asked me to search this for myself and provided me for hint for my curiosity. So here I am with this post.

Skin

If the skin was teloreceptor then it would feel the touch and pressure stimuli without actually touching the skin. That means you would feel an embrace of your loved ones from distance and you'd also feel the slap of your teacher from distance in the classroom if you actually slept during a lecture.

Besides you'd also feel other stimuli like heat or cold without actually having to touch the substance.

Tongue

Tongue is the gustatoreceptor organ of our body and helps to perceive the taste of different foods we take. If our tongue was a teloreceptor then we wouldn't actually have to put something in our mouth to know what it tastes like. You could just take your tongue out like a dog does(for a different purpose though) and say what the food tastes like that is being cooked in the kitchen.

Besides you could just take your tongue out outside a sweet shop and taste what every sweet tastes like. Could have been so much better. LOL

Nature is an amazing thing that has provided us with such a greater functionality and characters. I am always amazed with such mechanisms.

If there had been any mistakes please correct me thinking an innocent school teen. I would be grateful for any sort of response in the comments. If you enjoy this please upvote and resteem and help me grow.

Thank you!
