The differences between growth and development of living can we review from the understanding. Scientifically, growth is very different with development process, but the growth and development of living have similiarity in change process. Both are equally changed, But both grow in general, We often equate the meaning of growth that is the upward movement process and the development often we mean as body change process that occur with the movement to the side.

The true meaning of growth definition can be interpreted as the process of increasing height, volume or mass in the body of a living being that can be calculated by using numbers. Therefore, the growth can be seen physically that exists in the body. If there is an increase in the number of cells that divide then the process of growth will occur. And the growth process can be happened over a period of time, so there will be a point where living things stop growing.

For example, the growth that occurs in living things is the increase of meat in a person's body or animal. While on the plant we can know with seeing the increase in height aspect and the change of the number of leaves.

The meaning of development is the process that occurs because of the increased maturity to become a more complete creature completely. This process can not be described and explained by number, but it can be seen from its function. And all living things will experience this process. In development process, there is no age limit so this process will occur continuously along with the existing age.

Example of development is an adult process in an infant, at birth he can not do anything so that he is able to do anything like walking, speaking, and thinking more mature. From the meaning of development and growth process, we can conclude the differences between the growth and development:

  • Naturally , the growth process has a quantitative aspect that can be described by using numbers. While the development process has qualitative aspect so the development process can not be described by using number.
  • Growth can be seen from the physical condition, including the change of width, length, and heavy while the development process can be seen from different sides. That is seen from the nature and ability of living things in doing things better and more perfect than before.
  • In the process, growth has an age limit, so there will be the time when growth will stop. While, the process of development has no age limit, so that living things will continue to make the process of development for the rest of the life.
