DISCIPLINE

At high school, there was this temptation to explore. Magazines, romantic novels and movies were the commodities on constant exchange. I found myself caught in this web, no novel escaped my view, all I needed was a day or two to finish a novel. I stuck with books because it could be smuggled into the house easily without any interference. Movies was a no-go
area.My mother is very observant, she is excellent at picking out tiny details which one would likely wave off. image

It was on a Friday, my friend brought a movie titled Love, Sex and Marriage to school. The title was intriguing and compelling so I indicated interest to borrow it for the weekend.
My plan was carefully crafted out;
-I would keep it hidden in my school bag where no one would see.
-I would only watch it when my parents had left the house.
The feasibility of my plan was almost accurate. But on the said weekend, my mother refused to go out. I was so frustrated. It was as if she knew that I had something up my sleeves. On Monday, my 'modest self' had suggested that I returned the movie but my 'selfish self' told me to keep it for another weekend. I quickly obeyed the latter. On return from school that day, I met mum seated in my room with the movie in her hands. My heart jumped. Chai, I don enter one chance .

This was how the conversation went;
Mum: Ndy, who is the owner of this movie
Me: My classmate owns it
Mum: So you had the guts to bring this kind of movie into my house?
Me: Mummy, please I can explain, the movie is not really like the title. It has nothing to do with the title. I will never do it again. image
Mum: Am not returning the movie to you. I will burn it.

I begged and begged to no avail. I was lucky enough to escape without being beaten that day. She actually kept to her promise, because my eyes never saw that movie again.
Do you look closely at what your children or siblings do?
Most of the things your parents stopped me from doing helped me avoid certain mistakes that I would have made early in life. image
