I recently had a very interesting experience. I love to travel and often, in the territories I visit, I use the services of local residents as guides - well, because who, besides them, knows their native places better and can tell interesting stories about their history and cultural characteristics. Of course, it was surprising for me when such a request was addressed to me. I have never been a professional guide, but I must admit that I know Novosibirsk quite well and have very warm feelings for it. The guys from Magadan were in Novosibirsk for a week and asked to be introduced to the city. I compiled a 2-day program for them, which included a story about the development of Novosibirsk at the turn of the merchant and revolutionary eras, the scientific and technological infrastructure of the city. He showed the children the architectural features of the city, hydroelectric power stations, gateways, Novosibirsk State University, Technopark, advised restaurants and bars. When preparing for the tour, I was struck by the facts about the river on which the city stands. It turned out that without the Ob, Novosibirsk would not have had a chance for rapid development, there would have been no metro and the world-famous Akademgorodok. This river is strategically important for the entire Russian economy: in the northern part of its delta, a large amount of oil, peat and natural gas is produced, and whitefish fishing brings Russian fisheries half of the catch of this species of fish and a third of the world's. And only, from a bird's eye view, you begin to understand how large this river is - the Ob !!!
