North Carolina emerges as key battleground.

It is a smarter strategy than Trump campaigning in Virginia. North Carolina isn't as close as the other battleground states, but it is close enough and significant enough that it is worth putting some resources into it.

With Florida increasingly out of reach, it is good to develop an alternative pathway to 270 in the southeast.

I'd argue especially this cycle given North Carolina Republicans recently passed an abortion ban in the state over the governor's veto.

Likewise the Republican candidate for governor this year is ripe for attacks. He not only wants a total abortion ban, but is a crazy conspiracy theorist.

Like Wisconsin, even though the GOP dominates in the state due to gerrymandering, the statewide contests are a lot more competitive.

And much like Georgia, the state demographics are getting bluer.
