if bible says earth is round and revolvs arround the sun in the first place then why was galileo punished?? i dont understand the logic here..
Because it doesn't say that. But that's your point I assume? After all the church wouldn't have been opposed to heliocentrism if it did not hold that geocentrism was true. Having said that, it was Giordano Bruno who was burnt at the stake for it, Galileo just received house arrest, and mostly for publishing a book that depicted the pope as a simpleton.
Yes, that is my point... galileo when discovered facts that correlates to copernican heliocentrism and the sun being in the centre he propesed the fact to two popes, one after another..Pope Urban VIII was the one who thought that galileo was mocking him in his book.. thats when the house arrest was sentenced to him... atleast thats what i know..
