"Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Matthew 3:15

When John the Baptist was preaching to everyone about repentance and tracking onto the way of God, people were coming to him to be baptized and to confess their sins. This was their way of purification. John was preaching that the Kingdom of Heaven was at hand.

In the midst of the people, Jesus also came to John and requested to be baptized. Upon this request, John hesitated for he felt that it should be the other way around. That is to say, John felt that it should be Jesus who should baptize him. However, in order to fulfill the decree of Heaven, Jesus said that it must be the other way around. Jesus said, "Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness."

Upon being baptized, Jesus saw the Spirit of God descending upon him like a dove and a voice saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17
