Copyright on Prophecies?

in #bible7 years ago

Are the Copyright Laws governing Biblical text resulting in another form of deception due to the greed and blindness of mankind? Have you taken the time to research each Bible and see the differences between each one to ensure that the meaning of specific verses haven't changed?

Several years ago I was approached by a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses and to no one's surprise, we did not see eye to eye. (Corny joke AHOY!) It had nothing to do with the fact that I was taller than the person, we just had a lot of disagreements.

The Jehovah's witness who was quoting Bible passages to me was doing a cringe worthy job so I decided to provide a new lesson. I asked her which Bible she uses.

"There is only one Bible", she said.

I then asked who published the Bible.

"God is the author", she replied without directly answering my question. During this entire conversation she refused to open the Bible and tell me the publisher as well as what version she uses. Some might say that all Bible's are one in the same, but that is far from the truth. I asked her if she read her "Bible from cover to cover" and she said "of course". Then I told her she is liar, because she would've seen the company who published the Bible, would've then been able to see who translated her version of the Bible she possessed which means she skipped that portion of her studies and that she should read up on what God thinks of deceivers. I then walked away.

Here the publication details of three of the more common Bible's.

In the Bible there are a lot of verses about the end of days that speaks about deception on a grand scale. In fact, in Revelations the Bible clearly states that Satan deceives the entire world. It does not say "deceived the entire world with the exception of a select few". And it certainly doesn't say that "Satan can not deceive the believers". The Bible is VERY specific on the topic of deception.

This means that YOU, your family, your sober friend, your drunk friend, your mailman, your quiet neighbors, your angry neighbors, your annoying neighbors, your neighbors neighbors, your certified teachers and even ME have been deceived in one way or another when it comes to the ACTUAL truth. There are three questions you need to ask yourself?

  1. DO YOU BELIEVE WHAT IS IN THE BIBLE?

  2. DO YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN EACH BIBLE?

  3. ARE YOU WILLING TO ACCEPT THAT YOU HAVE BEEN DECEIVED AND FIND THE TRUTH BY DOING SOME HARD WORK RESEARCHING TO DISCOVER THE REAL TRUTH?

Let's take a look at just a couple of key differences between the different versions of the Bible.

In this verse it talk about a specific prophecy involving two birds. There is a problem though. Which type of bird do you look for in order for the prophecy to be considered fulfilled?

  • Older Version of the King James Bible (The Eagles)

  • King James Bible 2000 (The Vultures)

  • NIV (The Vultures)

Take a look at all of the different variations of this verse and REALLY read them.

Let's take a look at another VERY big one that most, if not everyone, talks about who owns a Bible: "The Anti-Christ".

Old King James Version (No "the" in front of the word "Anti-Christ".)

NIV (The word "the" is in front of the word "Anti-Christ".)

NLT (The phrase "but if someone claims to be a prophet" was added and the word "the" is placed in front of the word "Anti-Christ".)

Read the verses here: http://biblehub.com/1_john/4-3.htm

One thing that caught my attention in the above link is the difference between the titles where each of the verses are listed. In the King James version the title is "Testing the Spirits". In the NLT version it is called "Discerning False Prophets". One is focused on "prophets" while the other is focusing on "spirits".

NLT: http://biblehub.com/nlt/1_john/4.htm

When you read a bunch of these, the way some of the wording is done results in a change in meaning. This now has caused a debate as to whether there is an "Anti-Christ" or is it anyone who is against Christ. There are plenty of "Anti-Christ's" and there are plenty of people who have deceived many nations with false teachings who are against Christ.

If you look at the King James version for instance. Many people are waiting for this ONE PERSON who is supposed to deceive many. Based off of my studies I am wondering if this ONE PERSON everyone is waiting for is actually coming or if the translation is wrong. There are two key factors with this verse specifically.

  1. In the King James version it talks about "the spirit" of anti-Christ, not a person.

  2. The scripture says that the "spirit of anti-christ" is already here.

We have to consider each Bible's translation history and what years these all happened. The English translation of the King James Bible was completed by the year 1611. So unless the person who is the "the Anti-Christ", which the Bible says is already here, can survive for over 500 years, I would say there is a different meaning behind this verse, but many who have read this verse using the NIV say this is the deceiver who is supposed to come even though the Bible says this "spirit" is already here.

Makes you wonder about the other verses about the "Anti-Christ" and other prophecy alterations that may have occurred doesn't it? May be it's time for us to really sit down and really do our research on the Bible to ensure we aren't missing any specific signs, because of a translation problem due to copyright.
