The day of the Lord will come

1 Dear friends, this is the second letter that I am writing to you, and in both I awake with exhortation your clear understanding, so that you may remember the words that were previously spoken by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior given by your apostles; 3 Knowing this first, that in the last days scoffers will come, walking according to their own lusts, Jud. 18. 4y saying: Where is the promise of his coming? Because from the day the parents slept, all things remain as they were from the beginning of creation. 5These ignore voluntarily, that in the ancient time they were made by the word of God the heavens, and also the earth, which comes from the water and through the water subsists, Gen. 1.6-8. 6 For this reason the world of that time perished, drowned in water; 7.11. 7 But the heavens and the earth that exist now, are reserved by the same word, kept for the fire in the day of judgment and of the perdition of ungodly men. 8But, beloved, do not ignore this: that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as a day. Sal. 90.4. 9The Lord does not delay his promise, as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering to us, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10But the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night; 24.43; Lc. 12.39; 1 Ts. 5.2; Rev. 16.15. in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements that burn will be destroyed, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

11Since all these things are to be undone, how can you not walk in holy and pious way of life, waiting and hurrying for the coming of God's day, in which the heavens, lighting, will be undone, and the elements, being burned, they will melt! 13But we hope, according to his promises, new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. 65.17; 66.22; Ap. 21.1.

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, be diligent to be found by him without blemish and without blame, in peace. 15Y you have understood that the patience of our Gentleman is for salvation; as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom that has been given him, he has written to you, almost in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; among which there are some difficult to understand, which the unlearned and unstable twist, as also the other Scriptures, to their own perdition. 17So ye, beloved, knowing it beforehand, guard yourselves, lest, being led away by the error of the wicked, fall from your steadfastness. 18Before, grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
