The two ways in the Bible: For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. Psalm 37:9

in #bible9 months ago

As a continuation of Psalm 1, the Psalm 37 is a sapiential psalm and reminds to men of the importance of the two ways, because no one is beyond good and evil, and that righteousness and sin are indefectible choices in human beings. And these spiritual paths lead through the ethical laws of the universe ("For they sow the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind." Hosea 8:7) to two retributions, righteousness to happiness and true life, and sin to ruin and destruction.
That is why the author of the Psalm, probably King David, invited the readers to meditate carefully on the choice of the path to choose. Because wisdom, which is in the neighborhood of God, teaches the most excellent and the best; and wisdom does not want the perdition of men, because the meaning of human life is to increase the order and perfection of the universe.
Psalm 37 begins by teaching men to meditate on righteousness, the way of God, to reap blessing:
"Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:
He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,
your vindication like the noonday sun.
Be still before the LORD
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.
For those who are evil will be destroyed,
but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land" Psalm 37:5-9.
And Psalm 37 adds something else, righteousness and sin are mutually exclusive paths, just as the lamb has nothing in common with the wolf, nor does the righteous man have anything in common with the sinner:
"The wicked plot against the righteous
and gnash their teeth at them;
but the LORD laughs at the wicked,
for he knows their day is coming" Psalm 37:12-13.
The song ends in the Bible teaching that every blessing comes from God and that those who trust in God and live righteously are saved from tribulation:
"The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD;
he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
The LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him" Psalm 37:39-40
