Bible study about the natural man in the church: "Expel the wicked person from among you" 1 Corinthians 5:13

in #bible4 years ago

In his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul warns us about the problem of the natural man in the church: "But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.
What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside. ´Expel the wicked person from among you.´" 1 Corinthians 5:11-13
The natural man cannot be subject to the law of God, Tomas Aquinas defines the wicked person: "We say bad to the man deprived of virtue". The natural man is man subject to the fallen nature of man by original sin.

The wicked person is in essence an idolater, a lover of money. Jesus teach us: "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money", Matthew 6:24.
We have to choose between two paths and two rewards: "For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the spirit, set their minds on the things of the spirit. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so." Romans 8: 5-7
In the bible, conversion to faith is the passage from a life full of sins to a life of righteousness (Matthew 7:12), we cannot live as natural men in the Christian faith. The natural man is subject to error, to flaw. In essence the problem of spirituality is the problem of assertiveness, that is, being precise and accurate.
Living in God's grace is avoiding error, we cannot attribute imperfections to God. Paul ultimately recommends avoiding those who live according to the flesh to prevent the works of the flesh from bearing fruit in the church.
