Text: 2 Chronicles 31:4-10

4 Moreover he commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.
5 And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of corn, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly.
6 And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the LORD their God, and laid them by heaps.
7 In the third month they began to lay the foundation of the heaps, and finished them in the seventh month.
8 And when Hezekiah and the princes came and saw the heaps, they blessed the LORD, and his people Israel.
9 Then Hezekiah questioned with the priests and the Levites concerning the heaps.
10 And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: for the LORD hath blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store.

We have learnt previously, for example in this post that tithe is very important as a commandment from God, as well as the blessings that follow it. We know the importance of tithes to the giver, the church, and the society at large. Today, we will consider people who committed themselves to giving tithe in the Bible.

Abraham - Hebrew 7:1-10

Abraham is referred to as the father of faith and the friend of God. He therefore did not fail in his responsibility to give God what belongs to God. He gave his tithe to Melchizedek, the priest of the Most High God.

Thereafter, God's promise was fulfilled in the life of Abraham as he became very rich in all things. (Genesis 13:1-6)

Genesis 13:2 And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

Jacob - Genesis 28:10-28

Jacob made a commitment to always give his tithe as God blessed him. He made this promise when he was a fugitive, running from his brother, Esau. It was promise made out of desperation and because Jacob believed that only God could keep him safe in the way he was going.

In Genesis 32:13-21, Jacob was on his way back home and God had evidently blessed him abundantly that he sent many gifts ahead to his brother.

Genesis 32:13-15 And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother; two hundred she goats, and twenty he goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams, thirty milch camels with their colts, forty kine, and ten bulls, twenty she asses, and ten foals.

God backs up His promises with a performance of His wonders. He is faithful and if He says it, He will surely do it. He has promised to open the windows of heaven and pour down blessings for all those who pay their tithes.

Proverbs 11:24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.
26 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.

Meditate on these words and God bless you...
