Biafra Agitators
Rev. William Okoye, General Overseer, All Christian Fellowship Mission (ACFM), has disagreed with Igbos agitating for a sovereign state of Biafra.

He urged the Federal Government to ensure justice and fairness in the affairs of the nation to douse the tension and pacify those agitating for Biafra.

Okoye made the call on Sunday in Abuja during the mid year Thanksgiving Service of the Church.

He also urged the government to create level playing ground and encourage equity not mediocrity among the people, adding that these were the values that develop a nation.

“I am an Igbo man. I don’t believe in Biafra and I don’t believe that we need to go back to the agitation of Biafra. I was a soldier. I fought during the war.

“What is driving the agitation is because of the injustice being meted out to the people.

“We are not just talking about justice for the Igbos but justice for everybody in the country.

“Government should promote fairness and not to encourage mediocrity but equity; people who are qualified for something should get it irrespective of their religion and where they come from,’’ he said.

In his sermon on `Life’s Higher Values’ Okoye, who made reference to Esau’s story in the Holy Bible, said that the problem of the country was not corruption but distorted sense of value.

He said that Esau was indifferent to his birthright and lost his blessings from God, adding that Esau did not mind to sell his birthright for a meal.

“We have men and women who people have elected to come and serve their interests.

“But instead of serving the interests of the people who have laboured to bring them to the positions they are occupying, they sell out for little peanut.

“If you take the Bible away from some people, spit on the face of Christ, practice all manner of injustice, so far you give them food, money or political appointment, they sell out easily.

“There are things in life that should be more important than physical life itself if we have the right sense of value and with these kind of modern Esaus’ we are going nowhere,’’ he said.

The General Overseer pointed out that love and integrity are some of the values that would help transform and develop a nation like Nigeria.

“These are values that make nations develop, but today we are where we are and we will not make progress until these things change.
