Steem road map and dreaming big

in #beyondbitcoin8 years ago

Steem is already working the way Internet was supposed to be: decentralized. Got me thinking, what could my contribution to Steem? Fortunately, there is an official road map.

Virtual chat rooms with end-to end encryption could indeed provide a safe online environment for those who need it the most - our children. This idea would allow people of all ages to use Steem. Combined with micropayments, this would be a game changer.

Steem Chat

This lends itself to an observation: If we the Steem community can curate and vote on articles, what other forms of content could be curated and grown organically. The content traditionally offered by a centralized studio, could be done by a crowd sourced from the talented designers out there. This way the chat functionality could go beyond a simple chat, a whole virtual world could be created to use the virtual currency in.

Celebrate Blockchain Together

Imagine Steem goes big. Other social networks have proven that going big in this space is indeed possible, although the entrenched services will not be replaced overnight, they already serve much more customers that a new startup ever could.
The Steem Dream
Let's dream big for a minute. Remembering the Ethereum organic growth phase, I've sold in the bear trap. If this kind of growth ever happens to Steem, what better place would there be to celebrate this than a Steem virtual chat room with fellow community members? Do we have what it takes to develop the services of this type.. I believe we indeed do. Sure, some large social networks are able to recruit the top talent, yet we as a small players should not simply give up but fight for our own success.

Good points. Someone mentioned an idea in a comment to one of my posts that now has me thinking. They proposed adding a crowdsourcing feature. So for example, imagine after reading your article we were able to create a pool of money that would be dedicated to funding the creation of a feature?! Imagine if, before even writing a single piece of code, we could build a pot of, say, $2,000 which would go to whomever wrote the software that is eventually incorporated into the code? Then we actually could attract programmers as good as those at Facebook. In fact, it could attract literally those exact same people who might be working in their spare time.

If you've read the book "Ready Player One" - Seems that Steem or a similar token/setup would be pretty integral to their early message boards.
