Ned Scott, CEO of Steemit on "Religion" in Steemit and Pragmatism

in #beyondbitcoin7 years ago

At the recent SteemFest 2 in Lisbon, Portugal, Australian journalist Andrew McMillen interviewed Steemit CEO, Ned Scott on a variety of topics. I was glad to be there with my handy camcorder to capture some clips for you.

This is a "shot from the camcorder with ambient sound in the room" kind of video. Yea, the audio could be better and the video could be as well. However, focus on the content here and what Ned is saying. I find it very helpful.

Here is Ned speaking on a variety of topics. One he addresses is about a "religion" that can permeate a culture or organization. This is in contrast to pragmatism.

I resonate with that and have to agree with Ned. I think it is human nature to want to have a "religion" about doing certain tasks. I'm no social psychologist, but I have seen these elements creep into organizations that are very much like what we see in religion.

I'm a fan of William James, the famous Harvard psychologist and professor from the late 19th and early 20th Century. He wrote a work appropriately called, Pragmatism, where he stressed the importance of doing what matters and what works.

This is where we need to be with Steemit and with our ventures in life. Don't do something just because it is the current cool thing to do. Lock in your objective. Focus on execution of tasks to be done. Focus on what really matters.

Go for it, Ned! We appreciate what you're doing and look forward to more talks like these.

Please let me know you got this and your thoughts. My job is to provide quality content to you on a consistent basis and I want to make sure I'm doing that. Your feedback, your upvotes and resteems help a lot to let me know how I'm doing.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!

Terry

All the best,

Terry

You betcha' @omonosa. Ned has a lot of wisdom and I'm glad we can capture that with the right technology today. Thanx for the message.

I'm glad. U're welcome.

Pragmatism, where he stressed the importance of doing what matters and what works.

i like to think of myself as a practical spiritualist. i do it because it works, i got into it because i was upset, then i found peace, then i found the law of attraction, then i saw my connection to all things.

if we all worked together, we'd have a better time.

if we all worked out of love for each other, for love of whatever we are doing...

we'd produce the best results.

i think the best idea would be to have everyone doing what they love, then we'd find out what we are truly capable of. i actually shudder to think, out of pure joy, what we could do if we all worked this way.

the world we could have... i see it can be.

It is amazing what we can do when we work effectively. Thank you for your message @klevn and I look forward to hearing more from you in the future.
