Is Lisk a competitor for Ethereum?
First of all what is Lisk..
Lisk is a blockchain application platform that offers Node.js and JavaScript tools to allow developers the ability to easily deploy their own blockchain and build "decentralized" apps (dapps) on top of it.
So basically it is a blockchain platform that is capable of having dapps built on it.
What is Ethereum?
Ethereum is a public blockchain-based distributed computing platform, featuring smart contract functionality. It provides a decentralized virtual machine (An emulation of a given computer system), the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), that can execute peer-to-peer contracts using a cryptocurrency called ether.

So Ethereum is basically a platform that allows smart contracts to run on top it.
Which one is better..?
Lisk is a lot younger than Ethereum being only a few months old, and Ethereum just passing it's 1 year.
The difference is Lisk uses a modular crypto currency which basically has every dapp on it's own sidechain, separate from the main blockchain. This is aimed to help with scalability.
Also Lisk just released Lisk Nano, which is a client that can be used for creating Lisk accounts, as well as sending & receiving Lisk, and even viewing Lisk transactions.
Ethereum has smart contracts which will be able improve things like
- Voting
- Real Estate
- Medical Records
Just to name a few.. So I really think that both are equally important, and will be beneficial in the future of the crypto world.
I hope this explains how even though we are at an early stage in the crypto community..
There is room for everyone who has great ideas and great technology to bring to the table!

beware the ether bunny. tee hee.
Yeah, I'm just being goofy because I have no idea what you're talking about here. I'm trying to learn but there is so much to learn!
I have been out of Altcoins for over a year now and I have no idea of what is happening, but people love Ethereum.
because it is well done. there are other chains that are amazing too and I think should be higher in valuation, but then again the market participants are still young to the game. 8 years for an industry to exist seems like a long time to some but it really isn't in the grand scheme of things ;)
Personally, I favor Ethereum due to its first mover advantage. It will be difficult for Lisk to overcome the network effect that Ethereum has already built up. But competition is certainly a healthy thing which will drive innovation in the smart contract space. Perhaps Lisk will end up being Ethereum's Litecoin (although some might argue that Ethereum Classic fills that role now).
I have a small investment in Lisk which I've been holding for a while, on the theory that people who missed Ethereum's rise might pile into Lisk instead, especially given its attractive lower price point.
