Thoughts On The DLive Platform As A Twitch Streamer
Alright first off just to let everyone know I am writing this as a response to this post by DLive:
https://steemit.com/dlive/@dlive/new-campaign-announcement
Basically DLive is just looking for feedback on how to improve the site as a whole. I have now streamed on DLive twice, but I have streamed a lot on my Twitch here:
Concerns
I would like to address these first because I do have quite a bit of feedback.
How Does It Compare With Twitch
I think it looks pretty plain as a platform. I also know that it is just starting. Eventually for it to really compete with Twitch there needs to be bots available. People love these type of interactions on stream! There needs to be some type of follow alerts or other interactive parts to the stream. We need a DLive streamlabs with customizable alerts.
The Chat
I was streaming, and I could not see my chat. I had to refresh the page on Steemit to read anything in the chat. I know DLive just started but stuff like that can't happen on a stream. One of the main things about streaming is the interaction with the audience. I also don't know a good way to view the chat while I am streaming. Is there a possibility to open a separate window? Also, another topic to kind of pair with this would be a better way to notify followers when the stream goes live.
Smaller Community Size
A drawback to a smaller community also means that there will be less people interested in the type of games you are playing. For example, I highly doubt I will be able to stream Pokemon TCGO like I do on Twitch on DLive. There is around 100 people watching TCGO on Twitch at all times, but here on DLive I really doubt there are 100 people total who have interest in a Pokemon TCGO stream.
Losing My Audience
One concern of mine is that I know if I start streaming here on DLive I will lose all of my audience. It is just not user friendly enough to tell my viewers "Hey I will be streaming on this new site called DLive that is actually connected to this website called Steemit which actually works as a cryptocurrency and blah blah blah blah". Some people like the smaller community size of DLive to help them get noticed, but I already have a lot of growth on Twitch, and so for me this is like starting at ground 0 again. This concern is more directed towards getting medium to larger streamers to switch to the DLive platform.
What I Like
DLive Cares
Just the fact that they are asking for advice and giving out rewards to people who do shows that they care about improving the platform. They seemed to be involved in the community. On my second stream on DLive they upvoted my stream! Twitch has never shown such direct support like that. They still take the ad revenue from affiliates!
Lots of Potential
I could see this platform growing a lot. It has a long way to go I think, but it is also cool to be apart of something that is on its way up. I think it is great how people can upvote a streamer to support them without having to reach into their own pockets. It is a really unique way that can really only be run this way through Steemit.
DLive Stars
A really great way to draw new people into the community and reward streamers. I am sure DLive will continually find ways like this to reward streamers on their platform. One thing is it would be good to know more specific ways to qualify because I would really like to get to that status soon :).
My Verdict
I think there is a lot of potential in DLive. I think as a whole DLive needs more ways for interaction. I would say that is what makes the best stream. I think the positives out-way the faults that will hopefully be fixed in time. Therefore, I plan on leaving Twitch and giving DLive a try!
I will be streaming Monday and Wednesday - 1:30-4:20 Central Time Zone & randomly when I have time
I hope to do some variety streaming! I think DLive is a very good site for this because on Twitch if you stream a game that no one watches it is unlikely you will find any viewership. At least while there are not too many streams on DLive you can really stream whatever you feel like. I think the first series I will be playing through is a Minecraft survival run with some random games here and there. Really excited to see how streaming on DLive will work out in the coming weeks! If you have any feedback for DLive feel free to write your own post with the tag "betterdlive" or just leave a quick comment down below.
Hopefully I'll see you guys on stream!

Wow, thanks for the analysis. I'm not familiar with Twitch but great to hear a baseline comparison. I did notice that dlive has 2,000,000 STEEM delegated to it currently, which is twice as much as dtube, impressive!
