Be Productive

The Lord said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the Lord, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it" (Job 1:7).

There are people who are exceptionally active and yet seem to achieve little. They seldom have to become still and ponder the beauty and love of God. They live at such an accelerated pace that they have no time for the bonds of friendship or any of the ordinary small pleasures of life. Their lives are busy but unproductive.

To live a constructive and therefore productive life it is essential to plan wisely. A life without a plan is like a ship without a map or compass. The plan doesn't have to be fully detailed, but it is crucial to know our purpose and aspiration. Without a sense of direction our life will become meaningless and frustrating.

How is it possible to plan our life? It depends on the stage of life in which we find ourselves. Young people will have different goals from a more mature person, but in all cases judicious planning is required. It is God who guides us. To understand and execute God's plan for our life requires faith, patience and courage. Faith to believe that God has a plan for our life; patience to wait until He unfolds His plan to us; courage to obey His commands.

If we carry out God's will in our life, we will be constructively busy, and as we work with God, we will get to know Him ever more intimately.

One person who has learnt to master life is better than a thousand who have learnt to do it only through the content of books, but no one can derive something truly worthwhile from life without God. -Juniester Eckhart
