RE: Trying on The Simulation Hypothesis as a Belief System

in #belief-systems8 years ago (edited)

It's clearly computational in nature, but likely it's not a simulation.
The difference between computation and simulation is that simulation is computation with purpose, ergo a creator or a designer. Simulation Theory isn't a theory because it makes no testable predictions and isn't based on any credible evidence. In short it's just Intelligent Design 2.0

The simulation hypothesis is just modern day fetishizing for a deity or as I like to call it "secular deism".

Nevertheless the fact that the universe does appear to follow the laws of information theory and even appears to have error correcting codes embedded in supersymmetry, all seem to imply the very real possibility that there is a substrate we are running on. In otherwords, it does appear that we are software running on some sort of hardware.

To my mind this leaves two very fundamental questions we should be asking ourselves.

  1. Is it possible to hack the universe?
  2. What if life is actually a virus in the software of the universe, i.e. what if we are the hack?
