Bible reading: After beginning by the Spirit, are you now finishing by the flesh?. Galatians 3:3
Conversion is a fundamental step, Jesus explains it this way: "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God", Luke 9:62.
The way of faith involves imitating Jesus, like the good samaritan who comes to the aid of his neighbor (Luke 10:25-37). And this path requires firmness, constancy because otherwise, we are going to look back on the path we have accomplished and those who do this will not serve to the kingdom of God. Those who abandon the path of mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) and return to the law of Moses, are falling back to the life according to the flesh:
"After beginning by the Spirit, are you now finishing by the flesh? Have you experienced so much in vain—if it really was in vain? So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?", Galatians 3:3-5.
By faith we enter the Kingdom of God and by it we are justified: "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him", Hebrews 11:6.
The promises of blessing in the new covenant consist in the presence of Jesus with us and his way, and not in the works of the law, which only point us to sin:
"So also Abraham ´believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.´
Understand, then, that those who have faith are children of Abraham. Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: ´All nations will be blessed through you.´ So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: ´Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.´
Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because ´the righteous will live by faith.´", Galatians 3:6-11.
