#BeerSaturday strikes again!

I would write about the golden hoppy awesomeness that is beer even if my buddy @detlev didn't have the #beersaturday challenge. In fast I did until @matkodurko saw my posts and told me about the community of beer enjoyers rallying around @detlev. Watching him enjoy beer in Poland with the folks at STEEMfest really made me want to be there even more.

So, enjoy a beer, follow @detlev and post about your frothy adventures once a week in the #beersaturday challenge. https://steemit.com/contest/@detlev/do-you-like-beer-join-the-week-93-of-beersaturday-challenge

There is a brewery from Ottawa called Whitewater brewing company that has not really thrilled me in the past. Their IPA is MEH, Blonde Ale is barely beer, and the rest I have had from them I have been unanimously underwhelmed.

Here is a shot from the summer poolside where I was sampling the Farmer's Daughter - A Blonde Ale. It barely tasted like beer and wasn't crisp or special in any way. I suppose that is why they called is A Blonde Ale. So Blonde Ale may not suppose to taste like anything and maybe I am just an IPA with the lightness lost on me.

Here is a shot of their Class V IPA. Should be right up my alley. If it tasted really nice or different, I would be happy to ignore the weak ass name and lackluster branding. Fact is, though IBU is just a made up stat, it should give you an indication of the hoppiness/bitterness. 72 would not be sessionably hoppy in anyone's book and I would be happy enough to ignore that if it tasted like a sport-hopped beer.....which it does not. So, this beer was a lame attempt at an IPA at best and a train wreck of brewing ineptitude at worse.

Why the hell would I waste my money and time swinging at strike 3? Well because it is new and there is a little lull before a rash of new Spring seasonal IPAs set to hit stores. Why the hell not? Plus it is a Brut IPA which is the latest thing where the brewing process almost eliminates the sugar for a nice dry flavour without the need for insane hops to make it taste bold.

I do not hate this beer! The illustration is neat enough and the beer is relatively dry and quite tasty. It still has the shitty branding on the front but the kayak guy on the back is good and the illustration gives the can some depth. Don't read the description too closely because you may find it introduces a concept and doesn't even bother to tie it into what it has to do with the beer.

text16.png

Well done Whitewater, you have won yourself one more try for your seasonal IPA. Don't screw it up!

OMGosh! I love #beersaturday and this post is one of the reasons! You attack it with gusto and leave very little to the imagination. You forge ahead and save me a lot of time and money!

Booyah!

!tip

Haha! Glad you enjoyed it.

I tend to stay away from the high-brow “notes of pine and citrus with a hop-forward body...” stuff and just focus on my adventure constantly discovering new beers.

Brit seems to be the new thing and I am just glad to have avoided writing off Whitewater entirely.

Methinks you might have tried it to give it a fun review anyway!!! :) I did enjoy it and hope to catch a few more in the future!

As an aside, if you weren't just a tad snooty, you wouldn't even know the phrase: “notes of pine and citrus with a hop-forward body...”

OMG! I am kidding, I just couldn't resist! :) I just need to leave another !tip for being so snarky! LOL

Haha completely understood. Half the time, I am just trying to be funny anyhow. I don’t take myself too seriously.

LOL Understood!

That beer looks tasty. I went to Ottawa before, but I don't remember which beers I was enjoying there.

473mL is such a funny size for a can. The other day I found a beer in the shop here called Moosehead, it also came in a 473mL can. Cans here are normally 500mL. Personally, I didn't feel sad about missing the extra 27mL because it is difficult to get 500mL of beer in my 500mL beer glass, but 473mL fits nicely. I wonder if that is the reason why?

Anyway, right now I am enjoying a Grevensteiner Original Landbier.

473 must be a Canadian thing. Perhaps it is because we like beers more fizzy and pour them more aggressively in North America? Who knows?

Moosehead was from the east coast (before it was bought up by one of the big boys) and started as a really cheap university beer. I guess that generation of beer drinkers proliferated and now it is quite a popular national brand. I had many back in the day.
