Classic BMW - Bike, Pub Crawl

The small band of classic BMW riders was complaining that we did not do a bike run in some time, thus I organised the First Annual Second Saturday in November, Classic Bike Pub Crawl!! We were six bikes that committed and we decided to meet at a nice pub called Ridgeback at 09:00. As usual there are always some late comers, thus the photo above is of the first four merry men on their trustworthy steads!! Below you can see the entrance of the venue, which is surrounded by some nice trees!!

In the photo below you can get a nice idea of what the place looks like.

As it was still early in the morning and we planned to visit 5 pub's, I decided to start of with a light beer, called Windhoek Light. As you can see on the second photo below this is a real light beer with only 2.4% alcohol, and it comes in a 330 ml bottle. I think this must be one of the best light beers available, it does have a nice beer taste, slightly bitter, and definitely not watery, it is actually a great drinking beer!!


As it was still early, I also ordered a light breakfast, which was also great as can be seen in the photo below!!

Finally when breakfast was already finished the 2 latecomers also arrived, strangely enough both of them were on R69S bikes, which are supposedly the sports machines and fast bikes of the era!! Fast bikes but slow riders - DOES THIS MAKE SENSE??

Our next pub on the list was Capital Craft, as the name suggest they sell craft beers!! Below you can see what the place look like with the bikes parked in front.

The next two photos show the inside, which has a more modern look, with the roof giving it a bit of an industrial feeling!!


The have a small booklet with all the beers they have. (I forgot to check how-many beers they have, I will have to go back to to see how many they have), We all went for number 19, Fokofpolisiekar - Fokof Lager. Ruffly translated it says in a crude language that the police car must go away!!

This beer has 4.5% alcohol and came ice cold, just look at the condensation on the glass. The beer also have a nice color, with a smallish white head. This beer tasted good and is apparently one of the favorite beers sold at this pub.

Below you can see our bikes from above, a guy on a delivery bike decided to join us in the parking.

The next stop was the Stasie Bar (Station Bar). This is again a completely different setup with mostly open sitting areas.

Here we decided to go for the on tap Striped Horse Lager, which is also a craft beer.

Below is the Striped Horse Lager in the glass - ICE COLD just a pity it was in a plastic glass. Look at those bubbles - nice!!

Then we were on our way, to our 4th venue, called In die Bos. (Translated - In the Forest). Below you can see the venue, all the outside spaces were taken, thus we had to sit on the inside. Her you can see the inside with the thatch roof.

Here we went for a commercial beer named Black Label.

Look at that beautiful golden color and the very nice head!! This beer has 5.5% alcohol and is one of the most popular commercial beers in South Africa. This one tastes really good.

The last stop on the list was Rocket@88. By the time we got there our numbers dwindled to only 4. Not all of us wears the pants in the house and some had to go home to attend to their wives and kids!!

This pub is a new place and also really popular and nice. It consists of an under roof portion and an open area in the center as can be seen on the next two photos.


Below is the drinks menu and as you can see they have a small selection of craft beers. I decided to go for the Darling Brew Gypsy Mask

The bottle is very simplistic, but it looks great.

The beer is an ale and has 4% alcohol.

I love this beer's very beautiful amber color, it just looks great!! Just look at the beautiful graphics on the bottle. This beer is inspired by the Roan Antelope as can be seen on the label.

As I said this was the last stop!! All of us had a great time, the bikes ran without a glitch, the Beers were great and the company even better. All of us has a interest in classic BMW Motor bikes and we all love beer, this was great!! This was so great that we decided to make it an annual event!!
