A Trip to the Hill Farmstead

Greensboro, Vermont - March 31, 2018

Last month I took a trip to Jay Peak for some spring skiing. On the way back from the mountain I stopped by the Hill Farmstead Brewery in Greensboro, Vermont. The Hill Farmstead is a revival of tradition that went back over 200 years. In 2010, Shaun Hill brewed the first batch of 'Edward' (an American Pale Ale) at what now became Hill Farmstead brewery. It was in the spirit of heritage that Hill Farmstead was launched, to create craft brews just like the Hill family did for centuries in North Greensboro, Vermont.

Above is a glimpse of the Hill Farmstead brew complex. The double doors to the left of the photo lead to the retail area where you can purchase bottles & cans of Hill Farmstead's delicious beer and merchandise like shirts & glasses. The building to the right of the photo houses a ton of brewing equipment as well as a bar for growler pours and tasting. Below is a picture of the brewing equipment.

Unlike a lot of brewing facilities I have seen, the Hill Farmstead seemed to be very clean and tidy. In the photo below you can see stacks of wooden barrels that they use to age certain beers for long periods of time. The Hill Farmstead produces a large array of beer styles with different flavors and methods. So far every beer I've tried has been delicious.

After I loaded up my car with growlers, bottles and cans, I went back into the tasting room to try a couple of different pints. The brewery sits on farmland atop a hill. It has many nice places to sit and enjoy a pint. They also had a food stand from Pie Empire serving tasty meat pies, so I felt obligated to stick around. Below you can see a nice little picnic area to enjoy the beer and view.

Although the ground was covered with snow, it was a beautiful Spring day. I enjoyed a 'Susan' (American IPA) to celebrate the last day of March. I was very impressed with the Hill Farmstead Brewery. From the delicious beer, to the top-notch brew facility, they keep their quality high. I look forward to visiting again someday!
