Beersaturday! Beers with History! 12-8-2018

I took a trainee to St Louis, MO last week and we tried several beers during the trip. Then I dragged @lordvdr out to lunch today and we had beer! Good day so far!
To start with... Schlafly Beer! Opening in 1991, it was the first local craft brewer to open in the St Louis region since Prohibition.
Good stuff, smooth and sweet the Honey Brown Ale was pretty darned good! My coworker had a Boulevard Pale Ale from Kansas City (not pictured) that was quite good.

On Friday as we were headed to the airport, we quickly toured my favorite place in St Louis- Bellefontaine Cemetery! And stopped to grab a geocache at the largest American Elm tree in Missouri State.

Just a little ways past the tree, about .2 miles, away was the Anheuser Family Crypt:

And as we headed back to the main gate we spotted a beautiful structure and had to go and check it out- it was the Busch family crypt!

You might have heard of these families as they created the conglomerate that is now commonly known as AB InBev, which has 45% of the American Beer market and is kinda huge... like having around 30 breweries worldwide. Their brands include Budweiser, Busch, Rolling Rock, Michelob, Bud Light, Shock Top, and Landshark as well as quite a few Craft Breweries such as Goose Island and Elysium.

The Minneapolis airport is getting dressed up for the Holidays, this was my favorite tree as it has elves all over it!

While there we had dinner at the Stone Arch, which only serves Minnesota Craft brews. So many to choose from... I went with an Altbier Amber beer from Clockwerks while my trainee had an Ewald the Golden Hefeweizen by Utepils.

As you can see, I almost forgot to grab a photo! The beers were very good, I especially enjoyed the Altbier and would have had more if I had not been on a work trip. Responsibly... bah!

Today I had an Amber from Bayern brewing, it is a Marzenbier lager, 5.3% ABV, 23 IBU, and my favorite of their standard beer offerings.

And then we tasted all 3 of their Bad Santa Eisbock offerings... so Good! I especially enjoyed the 2017 Bad Santa, it was sweet and dark and smooth and just plain amazing. 12-13% ABV, 23 IBU.

Happy #beersaturday hope you are all having good beer!

Goodness, such a lot to taste! Sounds wonderful, so good there are so many craft beers. The cenetary looks interesting ... weird kind of places, though. Some in the UK have been made into wildlife sanctuaries.

The one we went to is also an Arboretum and has a small museum I believe. It is huge as well, really easy to get lost on the winding roads.

Looks like a good trip! Cheers 🍻
