Tipples beer review #58 - Garage Project (NZ) Cockswain's Courage (and more)

in #beersaturday6 years ago

Weekday drinking is not something I normally do, but on Wednesday I got news that there was a launch of Garage Project’s Cockswain courage at a bar named Boilermaker House which was just metres from where I had a meeting finishing at 5pm, it would seem criminal not to attend.

Somehow I convinced a few other people to attend as well, and that’s how we ended up having a few brews on a Wednesday night in the CBD of Melbourne, Australia.

Now Garage Project is a New Zealand brewery, is readily available in Australia and has some distributed in Sweeden and Norway. If you are in any of those countries check them out. They make a range of beers, including three slightly rare ones that I had at Boilermaker House.

Snug.jpg

First up was a beer called Snug, it is a stout, made to nitro gassed (like Guinness) and specifically made for Boilermakers and maybe even St Patrick’s Day. its okay, and it has some creaminess when first poured, but by the time it warmed, it felt feel just like a degased beer, it's lacking a bit of body its middle of the road, sort of like a snug, nice but could probably be bigger.

From there is was an about face to a sour brew called Acid Punch which had a nice sherbert-y lemon flavour. It was nice light and refreshing would drink it all day long, and then probably again tomorrow.

But the reason we were there was Cockswain’s Courage which is a 12.6% stout, which is barrelled (twice) in Bourbon Barrel, supposedly this is the only Keg in Australia, it was also $24 a glass, so it would want to be good. Good news, it was one of the best beers I’ve had all year. I gave it 4.75 stars on untappd, which is about a high as I go. It was an astounding beer, sweet and boozy and bourbon great body just amazing.

So if you are in Melbourne get along to Boilermaker house in the next day or so and have some of this amazing brew, if you aren’t see if you can find any of the Garage Project beers, almost all of them and great. Sounds like a great beer. Can't get enough of BBA stuff, stouts in particular! Pretty steep for a glass, but if it's been double aged in barrels that's a lot of time and space you're paying for. Sounds like it was worth it... maybe not on a daily or weekly basis, but I don't mind spending for something amazing once in a while. Cheers!

Beautiful post.

What a smart idea! Good job @harveyword

This place looks sick! Wow... Definitely would like to have a bit of this stout! Sounds to be great, and these 12,6%... huh...

Cheers!

Nice post! Upvote & Follow. Please check my post to this contest, too! Best wishes from Germany.

It's a shame that I won't be in the city soon. :(

That stout does sound incredible. But $24... wow. It would want to be through the roof amazing.

I did see a post from slowbeer over the weekend suggesting they had bottles of it - so it might be on a limited release to good bottleshops.

$24 for a glass of beer is very steep!! An expensive beer in South Africa is about $4.50. The alcohol content is also very high!! Nice post!!
