Tipples Beer review #104 - An afternoon in a Pub

in #beersaturday6 years ago

What do you do when it's your first week back at work after the Christmas break and you really can't be fucked being in the office, because well, people keep asking you questions that you can't answer, not because you don't know the answer, but because someone in management has told you that you can't tell 'the floor' until everything is officially announced?

Well then you go to the pub of course. So that how it's 2.3opm on a Thursday and I'm sitting on a couch in a pub waiting to a friend to come a drink is me, but you don't want to hear about the gossiping, the holiday stories and the encounters with other weird mid afternoon drinker so let talk about the beer we had.

we might have spent some time watching cricket as well

Fury and Son IPA. This is an Australian brewery, and this India Pale Ale was a great way to start they afternoon. It's a solid orange beer. Balanced, not too hoppy, very fresh with mango and pineapple flavour coming through.

Very very balance for six and something or rather % alcohol.

some evidence of actual work being discussed with a laptop in the background, ignore the empty pint glass

Next up was the Rodenbach Alexander cherry ale,

Rodenbach are classic Belgian brewer specialising in lambics, and in particular Cherry lambics, which are a cherry flavoured sour beer, this version has then been barrel aged to two years which take some of the tartness our of it, and some of the obvious cherryness, and replaces it with a smooth multi dimension beer, with layers of sourness, sweetness and wood tones, it is truly a stunning beer.

And last up was a beer from Pirate Life, who are another Australian craft brewery (although they were recently bought out by AB InBev) - this beer called 'Unfazed by the haze' is meant to be a clear (non hazy) New England IPA - so it has a confusing name, and is a bastardization of style that is already a bastardization of a style. Basically a shambles. The beer itself was unmemorable, little more that an average pale ale.

So three beers, One astounding, one good, and one disappointing, but still much, much better than being in the office working.
