Beer + Advent Day 19 - Last Rites Count Dunkula Black IPA

in #beersaturday6 years ago

I'm glad to see some variance in the offerings in the beer advent calendar again today - this time it's our second Black IPA (still hops based brewed mainly in this things, I'd like to see someone go a milk stout or some other outlandish malt bomb).

This one is from Last Rites brewing, so are based down in Tasmania, which for the (huge) global audience reading this is the island of the bottom of mainland Australia, famous for being left off maps.

This beer pours jet black, a brownish foam dense head. Smells of citrus hops and a touch alcohol burn in it, which at 8.2% is not a surprise, Black IPAs tend to go one way or another, they can be very harsh so I'm curious to taste.

It's big and punchy and boozy and oily on the first sip, it's one of those brews where you put the glass down and say 'whoa, that's big.' but as is often the way with big IPA's as you work through it it settles a little. But the end of the glass you are finding it a very enjoyable, balanced brew and you are hoping for more.

So as always this beery post is being entered in #Beersaturday by @detlev you should check out the comp here, it's pretty simple to enter 1) drink beer 2) write about beer 3)tag with Beersaturday 4) comment in main post 5)potentially win.
