Blushing Monk
If you follow my blog you probably already know that I have an obsession with founders brewery out of Grand Rapids Michigan. Not only are they one of the best breweries in the state they are one of the best breweries in the country. So I was excited to see they had released their next barrel aged Siri’s bee so I was excited to see they had released Blushing Monk. This is not my first time having this beer, but it is the first time that it’s been available in 12 ounce bottles that I can remember. Before it was only available in bombers which is not my favorite packaging because I’m not looking to spend that much money on a single beer that I have to split it with someone else. So I was excited to try the 12 ounce version.
This is essentially an "Imperial Rübæus," if you know this other Founder staple. The main difference is this ale contains approx. four times the amount of raspberries as Rübæus and is fermented with a Belgian yeast strain.
As you can see the color is a deep red with almost no cap. The color is rich and has a depth like a fine red wine. The aroma is heavily comprised of sweet raspberry notes and a slight bit of bread from the Belgian yeast.
The tastes is sweet and tart just like a raspberry. It’s got a great mouthfeel because the finish is tart kinda like a sour. It also finishes pretty dry it’s truly an interesting drinking experience.
