Beer Review - Watermelon Kolsch
Haven't done a full beer review in nearly a week. Time to rectify that wrong. Found a nice looking watermelon kolsch while out and about in Missoula a month or so ago. Finally got around to sampling it the other night.

Presentation
This beer came in a 12 oz aluminum can with very attractive very watermelon like graphics on it. A bright and attention grabbing can for sure. Had the beer name on the front and back in a style consistent with other Boulder Brewery beer products and a brief description of the beer on the side. This beer is sold in either 12 oz cans or on draught. This is seasonal beer offering by Boulder.
The Beer
- Appearance: A very light golden color, nearly clear. Had a thin foam head on the pour which dissipated rapidly,
- Aroma: Sweet, slight watermelon hints.
- Taste/Mouthfeel: A thin beer with moderate carbonation. Definitely has a watermelon flavor but not overly strong. Was very sweet and light on the palate, about what you would expect from a kolsch.
- Drinkability: Being light and of moderate abv, was a very drinkable beer, especially on a hot summer day. The sweetness would probably limit how many you would want to drink, though, in my opinion.
Rating and Final Thoughts
This beer rated a 3.25 by me on Untappd. a friend rated it 3.5 and it's overall rating from over 4800 people was 3.26. So there you have it, I was right on with most people, a decent kolsch, the sweetness kind of set it back a bit, not unenjoyable but I have had better watermelon beers. Well worth a try though, and a decent summer beer.
3.25/5
Thanks for taking a look at my review of this beer. This will be my #beersaturday post for Week 45. Go there and upvote it to help me maybe win something one week.
Cheers!
I've seen this on the shelf and wondered how the watermelon would be in it. Guess I will have to try it sometime.
I got it at Fresh Market on the single end cap so that would be a good way to give it a shot
I would recommend adding a touch of salt. I’ve found it makes the watermelon flavor pop a little bit.
Thanks I’ll keep that in mind the next time!
