Solera - Venezuelan beer
As all Venezuelans know, Cerveza Polar (Polar beer) is the most well known brand of beer in the country. Among all beers that Polar produces, I consider Solera the best. And it has different variations: black, märzen, light and traditional. My favorite is the traditional (Pilsen style), which comes in a green bottle. I consider it the best Venezuelan beer, of industrial production. There are other beers produced by small or local breweries, which are very good, but not well known. I have to mention that Venezuela has not tradition in beer, since the main ingredients of this drink are not produced in the country.
Approximately one year ago the brewery introduced a black beer, called Solera Black. However I got a surprise when I saw the ingredients. It contains sugar and sucralose. Usually they are not ingredients for beer. Traditionally the black beer or stout is produced using roasted malt grains. The Solera black contains 5% of alcohol.
The Solera Märzen is a type of Märzenbier, also has sugar in its ingredients. Literally Märzenbier means beer of March, this mane comes from the fact it is used to be brew in March or at the begging of spring.
It contains 4% of alcohol.
All these Solera beers, have as ingredients malt (cebada in Spanish) and cereals, however do not specify the type of cereals. The traditional Solera (green bottle) contains 6% of alcohol and it does not have sugar as ingredient.
I should mention that they taste very good, however the flavor of the black and märzen is not the traditional taste of this type of beers.
The Venezuelans like to drink beer very cold. As it is mentioned on the bottle label, it is recommended to drink it at 2-5 degree Celsius.
No offense but how can u afford to drink beer? I heard the country's all starving and eating their pets? That food isn't even available if you're lucky enuff to have some money? Is that just more fake news?
It is true that in the country there are serious shortages of food, this is a tragedy. The price of food is very expensive, if you consider the average income. The prices and the whole economy are very distorted, due to the inflation and the economy collapse.
For this reason there is the paradoxical situation that it is easier to get beer than bread, rice or milk. However for several months, it was very difficult to find beer, currently the breweries are producing it.
