Four weeks of Belgian GRIMBERGEN Beer reviews - week #4

in #beer7 years ago

Fourth and final week, the last of my four-week streak of Belgian Grimbergen beer reviews (feeling somewhat sad). Today's suspect - Grimbergen Tripel - 9% alc.

And again, for the final time, here are the four beers in a brief list:

Grimbergen Blond - 6,7% alc.
Grimbergen Dubbel - 6,5% alc.
Grimbergen Tripel - 9,0% alc.
Grimbergen Optimo Bruno - 10% alc.
All the beers came in the company of a beautiful glass, branded with the Grimbergen logo.

And here is today's star: Grimbergen Tripel

First impression(appearance):
Very light golden colour, promises somewhat a light beer, but who knows... 9% alc. are a definitely a great deal. Pours with a nice white head, and leaves chains of bubbles. Crystal clear liquid. While pouring, a distant aroma of champagne to be noticed. Seems very interesting.

After the first sniff(aromas): Definitely a Belgian strain yeast, some Black pepper, some complex phenols and yes... this champagne - like aroma. A little bit of malt sweetness, but its only at the background.

Time for the first sip(flavour): Spicy flavour... definitely! Medium body, leaving it's way to a somewhat dry finish. Definitely not a light beer, but the remaining sweetness is very well balanced with some bitterness in the aftertaste. Of course this bitterness is a yeast's job. Not much hopiness to be observed, which is typical for a Belgian beer.

Let's repeat(secondary impression): Very well balanced carbonation, and this final bitterness... Love it! Definitely a champagne-like yeast, which has a very nice phenol-spicy profile. Leaves very nice warming effect to the throat and reminds how much of an alcohol does the beer contain!

Overall conclusion: Definitely one of my beers. Belgian yeast combined with bitterness and a medium body - the balance is achieved. I love, that the beer does not have so much of a residual sugars, and it's very drinkable. My score: 9/10. Definitely would like to try another bottle of this. And after the all 4 weeks... For the summer I will maybe prefer the Grimbergen blonde, being a little bit lighter. I put this one on the second place. The third goes to Grimbergen Optimo Bruno, And the last one is for the dubbel.

And there are some random photos of this week's target:

I must say, I'm still enamored with that Gulden Draak Belgian that you hooked me on a few weeks ago, so I haven't made an effort to try any of these Grimbergen ones yet. I think I'll start with the Tripel, if I can find one. Thx. 😎

Definitely a nice one!
