Delirium Tremens - Brouwerij Huyghe
Beer Review
@STEEMFest 3 Edition
Delirium Tremens is an 8.5% alcohol/volume Belgian Strong Golden Ale made by Brouwerij Huyghe in Melle, Belgium. Brouwerij Huyghe is rich with history. It got it's name from Leon Huyghe, who started working at an old brewing facility called the "Appelhoek" in 1902 before buying it a few years later. Brewing at the Appelhoek dates back to 1654. The world famous Delirium Tremens was created in 1988 using three different types of yeast to give it a unique taste. It was awarded a gold medal during the "World Beer Championships" in Chicago back in 1988 and it continues to win international awards to this day. It is truly an iconic Belgian beer. I was able to try the Delirium Tremens thanks to @toocurious, who brought a bottle to @steemfest 3 and shared it in the salt mines of Wieliczja.

The Bottle
The Delirium Tremens is served in a 75cl bottle with a cork and muselet cap. It comes inside a nice sleeve, like a fine bottle of liquor. The bottle for Delirium Tremens is ivory grey colored and features a pink elephant. It's intriguing packaging might help contribute to it's incredible success throughout the years.
The Beer
While we were in the depths of the Wieliczja Salt Mines, @toocurious whipped out a bottle of Delirium Tremens and began to share. I enjoyed it out of a wine glass, which was actually a nice touch to the fancy @steemfest dinner going on. Although this beer has an 8.5% alcohol content, it's very easy drinking. It has a nice refreshing, zippy bitterness. After a glass, I can understand why Delirium Tremens is highly acclaimed. It's full bodied yet deceivingly subtle. I look forward to trying more from Brouwerij Huyghe in the future! A special thanks to @toocurious for letting me try!

Hey Jeff,
Cool of you to do a little review of one of the best beers of my country (and the world!). Do you know why there are pink elephants on the bottle though?
Why the pink elephants?
according to wikipedia: Seeing pink elephants" is a euphemism for drunken hallucination caused by alcoholic hallucinosis or delirium tremens The term dates back to at least the early 20th century, emerging from earlier idioms about snakes and other creatures. An alcoholic character in Jack London's 1913 novel John Barleycorn is said to hallucinate "blue mice and pink elephants".
Interesting, I’ve never heard that term before !
Thanks for the fun fact!
Many thanks again to the wonderful @toocurios who organised a few great belgium beers for this event.
Hope to meet you soon again and maybe once for a tour in your bus in north Europe. Was it Finnlad or Norway?
