Beer Review ~ Heller-Trum / Schlenkerla Rauchbier Marzen (Smoked Beer)
Tinted with an Autumn hue
We need to get our warm clothes in order
And stock the fridges with a darker brew
I know, I am horrible at poetry! But what I am relatively good at is drinking beer and taking pictures. Welcome to my short review of Heller-Trum / Schlenkerla Rauchbier Marzen – a dark smoked beer from Germany. Let's find out if it will be a good companion for the upcoming winter.
Brewed by Heller-Trum / Schlenkerla in Bamberg ~ 500 ml ~ Alc/Vol 5.1% ~ 2.24€ ($2.64)
The bottle and the label are inviting and promising.
Color and Aroma
The beer pours dark brown (almost like the color of the bottle) with a nice white head, which is there to stay. The color remains intense when I hold the glass against the light. It smells like smoke and wood (burning wood perhaps?) and brings a lot of emotions. It reminds me of the smell during wintertime in my grandparents' village where people were using wood-burning stoves to keep themselves warm. And the coziness of a campfire. I also smell smoked bacon.
Taste
Up front, the taste is of smoked meat, which is then followed by a smokey-sweet malt aftertaste. It feels smooth in the mouth, and the carbonation is pleasant (medium). Although not complex, I dig the taste of this brew!
Verdict
This is the second time I drink this beer, and I must say that I am thoroughly impressed. It's a wonderfully crafted winter brew - perfect for a cozy evening in front of a fire with friends. Score – 4.5/5 – Highly Recommended
Cheers and have an awesome weekend!
Dan
I love the look of that one - will be looking out for it now!
Cheers
It shouldn't be difficult to find :) Cheers and thanks for reading and commenting! 🍻
good to know
🍻
Smelling like bacon, can this be a breakfast beer???
Haha, why not?
I love a good Marzen - probably my favourite of the traditional German beer styles. And that logo, the man in the awesome 1920 suit with the huge beer - looks better in the blue version, which I think is the lager, but this is a much better beer.
Yeah, the blue one is a lager and they also make a few other types. Urbock is the one that I want to try next time. Thanks for your comment, @harveyword!
Also without friends? ;-)
Also without friends 😃🔥🍺
Well written review Dan. It makes me want to drink one, but I don't like beer.....lol. And your poem was great!!
Haha, "great poem" was the last thing I was expecting to see in the comments 😁 Thank you! Do you like wine?
This is now my 5th attempt to reply to you!!! Don't you feel special????
Okay your poem was great despite what you think - great creativeness....maybe not in the great literary work category but great anyway.
I do enjoy a glass of wine every now and again. Usually it would be a dry red - a shiraz or cab sav or chianti. Smokey, smooth. Not too fruity. I'm not particular at all!!
It only took me 2 attempts to reply to your comment :) Steemit sucks nowadays... I do feel special, and I really appreciate the time that you take to read my posts and write comments.
I don't mind fruity wines :) You should try Bulgarian red wine (merlot, mavrud or rubin) if you have the chance.
I'll put that on my list of tries. I actually have a list in my Notes widget. It's good to keep track of things like this there as well as books or movies ppl have suggested.
The packaging alone is VERY tempting. Vintage feels is always a plus for me! :) And it must really taste good. Im so digging your photographs!
P.S. Who said youre not good in writing poems?
Are you a packaging snob? :)
I am actually quite good at writing poems in my mother tongue... English is way more challenging when it comes to poetry :)
Thank you @ablckbrd!
Unfortunately, yes! Although I am also more of a review junkie, than packaging snob. :D
And your mother tongue is? But your English is already impressive.
Благодаря, старая се :)
Bulgarian.
