Tipples Beer Review # 15 & Beer Saturday Week 19 - Dessert Beers
Beers sent from God?
Can beer be dessert? Can we move away from hop infused monsters and embrace the sweeter side of things? These two beers from Australian craft breweries give it a red hot go.
Moondog Cake hole Black Forest Stout.
Moondog are Australia's enfant terribles of the Australian beer scene, they produce plenty of weird and wonderful beers, and after some growing pains most of them as brilliant so let see what happens.
Cakehole with the trademark Moondog labels
Pours dark, with a huge foamy tan head which certainly lingers. It certainly one of the best looking beers going around.
Aroma is almost non existent, which is a little surprising to say the least.
The taste is very interesting, it is sweet, but only by standard stout standards - it's more of the absence of roastiness that you usually get in stouts rather than a sweetness, say from a milk stout or a big barley wine.
There is some chocolate in the aftertatse but then this fades away to cherries which sits on the tongue, which feels a bit cough medicine for my liking - this doesn't work for me which is a shame because I really wanted to.
Big Shed brewing - Golden Stout Time
This was a beer brewed by the South Australian brewery for GABS 2015, GABS is Australia's best beer festival - which debuts 120 odd specially brewed beers, mainly based on an out-there idea, like this one - a beer version on the classic ice cream The Golden Gaytime
Beg Shed's very cartoony label
It pours similar to cake hole, a huge tan foamy head on a deep dark brown beer.
Smelled exactely like the ice cream it's named after, chocolate toffee and honeycomb, it promises a lot.
the mouthfeel is so smooth and silky, suggests to me and infusion of lactose which adds sweetness and body.
This really is a stunning beer, gimmcky but in a technically brilliant way.

Good morning, I would like to start my day with something sweet now :)
I think beer is a perfectly acceptable breakfast food - but I might be pretty irresponsible.
To be honest, I do drink beer in the morning from time to time.
Great post, I think beer can be anything, breakfast, lunch, dinner, desert!! LOL
Wow, they look heavy, but would definitely give them a try!
