Beer Review: French Witbier!!

in #beer8 years ago

I tried this beer a couple days ago, a purchase by my beer buddy, Cody, in Bozeman, Montana at the World Market store there. I have to be honest, I was skeptical about this beer, an import from France but my opinion was changed after trying it.

Presentation
This beer was in an usual colored Blue bottle for beer. I don't recall seeing other beers in blue bottles. It had a simple label on the neck that gave some simple information and the standard government warnings. The bottle did have embossed features of the 1664 which was kind of neat.

The Beer

  • Appearance: As can be seen in the photo above this beer has a light straw color, slightly cloudy (in my favorite Frazetta pint glass). It had a thin white foam on the pour that dissipated quickly.
  • Aroma: It had a nice citrus and corriander aroma, although upon immediate opening I got a strong "skunky" whiff from the bottle.
  • Taste: this is where I was surprised, it was a nice light beer with a pleasant taste, none of the skunkiness I was expecting after the whiff I got when opening. Very refreshing, a good summer time beer.
  • Mouthfeel: A sprintly mouth feel is how I would describe it, lightly carbonated but was a pleasure to have in the mouth.
  • Drinkability: Very drinkable, could easily drink a number of these in warmer weather.

Rating and Final Thoughts

This beer was a pleasant surprise for me, was better than I expected and I would definitely drink it again. Was happy the skunky odor didn't translate to the taste at all. I rated it a 3.25 on Untappd, it had an overall ranking of 3.52. I might have underrated it but if I drink it again I will increase that rating. A nice package all around, good taste, attractive presentation in the blue bottle. Recommended as a summer beer.

3.25/5

Super bowl beers were kind weak eh? not many 4s

Just drinking beers I have on hand that I haven't tried. The Ballast Point Stout was decent, the most disappointing was the Coffee Porter.
